XKCD - Tech Mum

XKCD last week had a strip which has stayed with me while surrounded by all the impressive technical women at Grace Hopper.

I have fought the urge to set up a survey to find out what the most popular children's names are here; have the innovators in the field been obliquely recognised by others, are there any in-jokes, or is the distribution of names just as you would find anywhere else?

I'm getting quite excited in the run up to the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing.  I am so glad I got a full scholarship to attend.  I admit I'm a bit nervous about being one of their official bloggers, but that just means it is tIme to polish my words, develop some opinions and confirm my daylong schedule of duties so I can do some thinking in advance. (Although I may lack the initiative for the latter, or so I understand from the above.)

Agile Fun Night

My 'Agile Fun Night' appeared to manage to be true to its name, and generally seemed appreciated by the people I ran it for. 

I facilitated a version of 'Extreme Hour', with a warm up of 'pair drawing'.    Photos here. 

Tom summarises it very well.  I certainly enjoyed myself.  I wish that there had been more time for reflection on the process, interaction and achievements for both activities, but hopefully I will draw that out next time I run the session.

Of course, it just makes me increasingly tempted to set myself up as a consultant to help pay for my existence as a student...
